Our People
Mission Statement
To worship God by meeting the needs of the underserved in our community in order to build bridges of faith in Jesus Christ.
History
It started with a vision.
The Kingsway Community Care Center (KCCC) began from the shared vision of Kingsway Christian Church and one of its members, Dr. David Cheesman. The vision for the organization is to extend the love of Jesus Christ through satisfying the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of those seeking care. Supported by the belief that the Church is an integral part of God’s plan for reaching community needs, KCCC accomplishes this by providing medical and dental services for a very nominal fee to patients without insurance. Prayer and spiritual support are also offered to patients upon request.
A vision becomes a reality.
KCCC was incorporated in 2004, and opened its doors to patients in June 2005. In October 2006, the Center received its 501(c)(3) status. Thanks to the doctors, dentists and other health care professionals who volunteer their time and services, KCCC is helping to meet the medical and dental needs of a portion of the growing number of uninsured residents in the community. The number of uninsured residents in Hendricks County alone is estimated at 10,000. In 2007, KCCC had 1,009 medical- and 218 dental-patient visits. This is a 40% increase from the 711 medical and 155 dental visits in 2006.
Community support makes a difference.
Since the center’s inception, over 6,000 volunteer hours have been logged by doctors, dentists, and other health care professionals. In addition, our volunteer roles have expanded greatly to include outreach, marketing, fundraising and partnership development. Like any service organization, KCCC needs people with a variety of skills and backgrounds to operate effectively. Volunteer duties now include receptionists, data entry, clerical accounting, tax preparation, graphic arts, IT, grant writing, special events management, strategic planning, copywriting, web design, PR, human resources, policy development and facility cleaning and maintenance.
The people in the community have provided encouragement and support to the center’s mission. In February 2007, the County Commissioners honored the KCCC by naming it a “Business Making a Difference in Hendricks County.” Hendricks Regional Health and Clarian West Medical Center are working together on a hospital advisory board to provide guidance and advice. The common goal of providing the most effective, efficient and compassionate means to meet the medical and dental needs of our underserved neighbors has drawn many in the community to support the work.
As we continue to reach those in need...
KCCC began with seed money provided by the members at Kingsway Christian Church. The church continues to provide monetary support, but the vast majority of the annual $200K budget is being sought from individuals, businesses, foundations and churches.
The clinic operates from a small, rented facility in Avon, Indiana. However, KCCC staff are seeking to expand the center’s capacity to serve a greater portion of the uninsured residents by relocating to a larger facility. Additional volunteers are needed in many areas, as the organization is operated with three paid employees.
Future services are limited only by the dedication of the volunteers and the resources provided to make these a reality. Legal aid, optometry services and dental cleanings are possibilities, as professionals in these areas have approached the KCCC leadership with inquiries. We will not limit the ministry, but seek to move as God directs and provides.
